Umpires are a common target of softball fans. When the men in blue make calls that fans don't like, they get plenty of yelling and heckling.

Friday, Bleckley was one of several softball teams attempting to help the training of umpires as well as get scrimmage time in a tournament played at Southern Pines.

The Lady Royals first squared off against West Laurens. Though BC took an early 1-0 lead, WLHS scored five unansswered runs as BCHS lost 5-1. Mychavia Harris had two bunt hits. Game two was against East Laurens. Many of the younger players started this game.

Up 2-0 early, Bleckley found itself down 4-2 before tying the game in the top of the third. ELHS built a 7-4 lead. A late rally fell short as the Lady Royals lost 7-6. Leslie Holland was 2 for 3 with a double.

Elizabeth Wynne has the ball at first.


BCHS has two more games Saturday at 9 and 11:15 am.
