Making "back to school" better.

Thursday wasn't a good day for many children in Bleckley County as school started back. While the end of free days and late bedtimes no doubt was very discouraging, Mount Calvary Baptist had something that made the return to school better Saturday.

Katlyn Nobles and Lexi Moon show off their face paint designs.

The church hosted a "Back to School Bash." Giant slides and a slip and slide were outside to help stay cool. Inside was a unique style of face painting. These designs covered the entire face.

Sprinkes on ice cream makes it even better.

Hot dogs and chips with ice cream for desert made for a good lunch. Free school supplies were handed out. The idea for the party came from a group of church members.

A laminated bookmark will surely come in handy.

While they expressed dissappointment with the turnout, they understood that other events including opening day for soccer at the rec. department affected turnout. They plan to have the event next year. Though the numbers weren't as big as they wanted, those who attended had fun.

Crayons, markers, and other supplies were all given out by the church.

That makes it all worthwhile.
