Rumors of slowpitch softball's death are somewhat exaggerated.

Benji Purser (making a leaping snag of a relay from the outfield) is another Bleckley native playing slowpitch softball. Unfortunately, Purser's team would be eliminated that afternoon.

Quick, what's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word "softball"? Chances are "fastpitch" came to mind. Slow-pitch softball, formally a dominant sport in Georgia, has become a rarity with the popularity of women's fast pitch.

Tyler Gavitt gets under a ball in left.

While many women only play slow-pitch if they're particpating in co-ed church leagues, men's slow-pitch isn't dead. A team based out of Cochran, going by the name "Juiced Up" has been enjoying lots of success this summer.

Eric Sikes throws to second.

Started by Eric Sikes and Justin Maddox, "Juiced Up" has been playing in tournaments over the past two months. They'd won four going into the MSA (Millenium Sports Assoication) "Springdale Classic" played Saturday at Springdale Park in Dublin.

Tyler Sellars throws to first as part of the final out of the championship game.

After run-ruling their first two opponents, they faced "Causing Drama." Juiced Up plays as a Class E team. Causing Drama was a D team. That meant a four-run spot for the Bleckley team. It would prove to be a factor as Juiced Up won 12-11.

Vinson Howell receives the ball to clinch the championship.

The title game was a rematch, and again the four runs proved to be a factor. Up 8-1 early, Juiced Up held on for a 10-6 win and a second straight undefeated tournament.

The team poses with its first-place plaque.

Leading hitters were Sikes, Vins Howell, and Justin Maddox. Juiced Up will be playing on August 14 at Peavy Park in Warner Robins. To learn more about the team go to www.serioussoftball.com/teams/juicedup
